The tradition of striking coins continued into the twentieth century by Rajendranarayana and Jitendranarayana. Although their coins were struck by the Calcutta goldsmith Girish, as were struck by Jagatdipendranarayana, on his accession in 1922. These ceremonial issues were purely symbolic in demonstrating that the Maharaja still retained the right to strike his own coins, in spite of the fact that the he was not allowed to circulate them. This right was jealously guarded and exercised until the State was merged with Independent India on 12th September 1949.
